MISSION
The Episcopal Day School was established by the Church of the Good Shepherd
to provide an enriching education which encourages spiritual growth, explores
discovery of self, and promotes service to others.
HISTORY
The Episcopal Day School was established in 1944 by the Church of the
Good Shepherd to provide a Christian kindergarten for parish and neighborhood
children and to provide child care for Augusta mothers working in the
war effort. Through the years, the school grew steadily. In 1962, the
Episcopal Day School became the first school in the area to integrate
its classes, well before court-ordered desegregation in 1972.
Today, as a co-educational day school, EDS serves three year olds through
eighth grade with a faculty and staff of 70.

Message
from the Headmaster
Welcome
to the Episcopal Day School. I invite you to explore our website and
visit our campus so that you can begin to discover the immeasurable
value of an EDS education. On your first look you will see all of the
ingredients of excellence in education: experienced and dedicated faculty,
high academic standards in a safe and nurturing environment, small
class sizes, a commitment to individual development, and an active
and involved parent body.
But I invite you to look closer and you will
see much more that makes EDS a unique opportunity even among independent
schools. Outstanding programs in athletics, PE, the arts, and community
service demonstrate our commitment to all dimensions of education:
heart, mind, body, and soul. The rich history of our community grounds
us in a tradition of shared purpose and values. As an Episcopal school,
we practice the Gospel imperative of inclusiveness, enabling us to
create a community of faith while incorporating into school
life the development of a religious vocabulary, familiarity with the
great stories of Hebrew and Christian scripture, and the nurture of
spiritual beliefs and practice. These additional components of our
school not only represent part of our expanded program, but they
actually enhance the students’ academic education.
Come visit and
experience the reward we feel in helping these wonderful young people
build foundations for learning and life.

Ned R. Murray
- Headmaster
