2019-20 Clay Target Shooting Team

The EDS Clay Target Shooting Team registrations are due by Thursday, 8.1.19 to Coach Cohen for submission to GISA by August 8th.
To register, you must provide the child’s name, grade, and hunter safety number.
Any shooter may send me their Hunter Safety Number once they complete the course. Your shooter can also complete the coarse online of you missed the course offered at EDS in the spring.

In the inaugural shotgun team meeting last Spring, we gave out information about the GISA Saturday Clay Target Qualifier Meets held throughout the state. These meets are designed for the High School competitive teams. In order to qualify for the state meet held in November in Savannah, a shooter must participate in 3 Qualifying meets. From my two years of experience in participating as a coach in these meets, I have learned that they are open to middle schoolers but not designed for beginners. They are fun to watch but I would encourage, especially during EDS’s first year, that we focus on competing in the middle school Tuesday qualifying meets. I realize that these dates might interfere with other competitive sports, but the Saturday meets are for a shooter that is practicing more than 2 times a week and consistently shooting 10-12 (at a minimum) clay targets out of 25. Three middle school dates at Pinetuckey have been set and there could be 3 – 5 more added later this summer.

The three dates so far are:

If your child is interested in joining the team, you will need to start practicing this summer. Pinetuckey Gun Club is an excellent resource, and they are devoted to safety. While the practices are not free, they are giving us a discount for the range (about $5 for a round of 25 clay targets).  The Turkey Wildlife Federation also has a wonderful facility.
As a reminder, each shooter is responsible for their ammunition, practice fees, and GISA qualifying (Saturday) meet entry fees. EDS will provide the uniforms. I will need to determine the cost of the middle school meets, and hopefully, we will be able to host a fundraiser to offset these entry fee costs.

Please do not hesitate to call or email me with question or concerns.
Best,
Jaye Cohen
