Fall Athletics Information

The athletic department is gearing up for the 2014 – 2015 campaign and getting all our ducks in a row before we unleash the Panthers on the league.

Mandatory Meeting

  • Fall EDS Athletic Program Preseason meetingAugust 11 at 3:00pm in the school gym.
This is an important meeting and strongly recommended that all fall athletes and parents attend. At least one parent should be in attendance. At that time, you will receive more detailed information about the particular sport in which your son or daughter will be a participant.

Important Notes

  • All athletes must have all EDS health forms (follow the link and click on health forms) completed.
  • The game schedules can be accessed at any time on the Master Calendar (filter the athletics calendar at top left).
  • If you need to reach me, please email me at jcohen@edsaugusta.com, or call my direct line at 706-261-0111. As always, my door is open for all visitors. I can be found at EDS most days during the rest of the summer; however, my hours may vary depending upon the day. If you would like to discuss any ideas about the athletic program, please contact me to schedule a meeting.

Coaching Updates

We have most of our coaching vacancies filled and we are confident they will add to an already strong program. After an extensive search reaching out to many members of the Augusta community, we had several candidates apply for the two openings for head coaches: football and basketball.

Both Coach Chandler and Coach Dixon, current assistant football coaches, assisted in the search process and I am pleased to announce that we have hired Richard Strahman as the new head coach for football. Coach Strahman played football locally at Greenbrier High School and at LaGrange College. During his time at Greenbrier, he was a First Team All Region winner, a defensive team captain and MVP. He also was on the Greenbrier wrestling team and was a two-time region champion. Please join us in welcoming him and feel free to stop by the practices later this summer and introduce yourselves.

As for the basketball program, Mike Brown has stepped down after many years of overseeing the girls basketball program. We are happy to announce that Coach George Dukes has agreed to be Head Coach after spending the 2013/14 season coaching beside Coach Brown. On top of that role, Coach Dukes has also agreed to be Head Coach of the boys team as well. Coach Dukes is heavily involved in the local AAU basketball program and has a lot of great ideas for strengthening our Panthers and continuing the success of both the girls and boys teams.

Thank you all for your continued support in the EDS athletic program. Enjoy the rest of your summer and stay cool. Go Panthers!
