Costa Rica Day 5

Today we broke into two groups for our hike through a rainforest on the Caribbean Sea side of Costa Rica. Our guides were a father and son team who have been doing this for many years and know the rainforest well. We started out in their very own backyard and it was amazing to see all the fruits and spices they had growing in a relatively small area. During the hike we experienced many different creatures in the rainforest, we had spiders crawl on our faces, and for kicks we ate termites for our afternoon snack. YES, I did say TERMITES! In the end, the kids all had a wonderful time and we had a fabulous dip in the Caribbean after the long hike. Below are a few quotes from students about their day.

The hike was so much more fun than I expected! We saw so many creatures and plants. We especially liked seeing the sloth and monkeys. One group even saw a snake! We did so many things I had never done before. Some of those things included eating termites, wearing spiders on our faces and drinking coconut water. Even though sometimes it was rough, it was so much fun! – Talley C.

Today the beach was amazing.The view was so pretty and the waves were perfect.The water was so clear that you could see your hand. All and all it was a good day! -Ella K.

Tonight during our circle time, Henry C. passed the bandana to Sam L. for his determination in capturing every moment possible of this wonderful experience on his Gopro. Hopefully we will be able to add a few of those videos to our blog (as soon as Ms. Hancock figures out how to do that)
