Mrs. Grogan and Ms. McNeil… two EDS “Favorites”

It has been a terrific few weeks of recognition for EDS teachers. On Friday, April 2nd, Anne Moss was recognized  on live television at the annual Golden Apple awards (click here to see Lee P.’s post about nominating her). There was a terrific group of educators honored that evening, and Anne was, of course, a shining star! In a surprise addition to the night, our alumna Ann Sturkey (we knew her as Ann Beth Harrison) was also honored with a Golden Apple. She is a teacher at Martinez Elementary School.  And to top it off, in her acceptance speech, she identified her third grade teacher as her inspiration and role model – that teacher was our own Karen Dye!  What a great night it was for teachers, and especially for EDS teachers—a triple play! Wait—it was a quadruple play, because EDS parent Brad Means masterfully emceed the event.

Last Tuesday evening, five area teachers were honored at Barnes and Noble at the culminating ceremony of their “My Favorite Teacher” essay contest, and TWO of the FIVE honorees were EDS teachers! A former student and a current student each wrote beautiful essays (featured below) about the impact that Kate Grogan and Ingrid McNeil had on their lives.

It is really moving when a teacher is remembered and honored in this way, and I know you join me in celebrating Kate, and Ingrid. These recognitions are representative of the amazing, life-shaping work all EDS faculty and staff do — every single one of them.

  1. Am I the only one left wondering who wrote such kind (and spot-on, I must concur) words about Kate Grogan?
