The EDS Veterans Day Assembly was held on Wednesday, November 14, and led by our student council officers Emma Kate S., Ella J., and Matthew L., with the assistance of our District 3 student council State Representatives, Carter W., and Gabby L.
The Augusta University ROTC Color Guard presented the colors, and The Reverend Robert D. Fain, LCDR, USNR, Retired, led our opening prayer. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the EDS choirs sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Fifth-grade students AJ W., Nat L., Savanna M., and Claire S. shared their reflections on personal interviews of veterans of the armed services, and the second-grade students sang “The Preamble,” a song about the Constitution and its opening statement of principles, the Preamble.
Retired Air Force Colonel Robert Pettit, the current Mayor of North Augusta, engaged the audience with an inspiring message focusing on service and responsibility. Afterward, students and guests participated in the “Armed Forces Medley” and slideshow, standing during the appropriate song if they or members of their family have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. The assembly ended with closing remarks from Dr. Murray and a closing prayer led by Pastor Lisa.
EDS is proud to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
