3rd Grade Visits Boyhood Home of Woodrow Wilson

Mrs. Norvile and Mrs. Snead’s third grade students toured the childhood home of President Tommy Woodrow Wilson on Monday, 9.16.19.  This tour enhanced the classes’ reading of the novel, Escape by Night, which is a historical fiction novel based on the childhood life of Tommy Wilson.  The students saw first hand how President Wilson lived as a boy during the Civil War.  The trip helped them understand the close proximity of the Wilson house and First Presbyterian Church which was used as a hospital during the Civil War.  It became apparent that Tommy’s childhood experiences influenced his decisions and ideas about America’s involvement in World War I.
