Checkers Tournament in Fourth Grade

After several weeks, numerous elimination rounds, and a tense 25+ minute final round, the Fourth Grade Checkers Champion has been determined. First we offer congratulations to our two runners-up, Bill T. and Brooks C. Our second place winner, Emma J., also deserves a standing ovation. Now let’s give a drum-roll to our 2015 first place champion Davis W.

The tournament correlated with our study of the Newbery Award winning novel, The Door in the Wall, which the class read earlier this year. During this study the students learned that the game of checkers has been around as a form of entertainment since medieval times.
