Learning About Our Local African American Leaders
Mr. Corey Rogers, Historian for the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History and professor at Paine College, visited fourth grade last week to teach them about the history of African-Americans in Augusta. Students and teachers learned a lot about Lucy Laney, Rev. C.T Walker, and John M. Tutt, and how they influenced the education of black children in the Augusta area and throughout the country. Mr. Rogers also talked about the importance of studying history, not only through books but by asking older people about their experiences and how they were impacted by historical events.
