Soles4Souls Wrap Up
The 2015 Soles4Souls shoe drive is officially over and the shoes have been delivered to the worldwide distribution center to be sorted and processed. For the donated shoes, this is just the beginning of their new life … some of the shoes will be packaged and labeled, ready for any future natural disaster relief, others will be distributed in the United States to people in need. I am particularly excited about the shoes that will be sent to Haiti to benefit the micro marketing program and help families start their own business and end the pattern of poverty in their family. What a great feeling to know we made a difference in the lives of so many people and kept these shoes out of our landfills.
Upon arrival at the Worldwide Distribution Center the shoes are unloaded into boxes. I am excited to announce that this year we filled up 4.5 HUGE boxes, and each box weighs approximately 1500 pounds!!! The staff estimated we donated close to 4500 pairs of shoes this year!! With the help of EDS over the last 3 years we have donated almost 15,000 pairs of shoes!
It is always so fun to meet the EDS first graders and I look forward to working with next year’s class on the shoe drive.
