7th Grade Plate Tectonics Model Project

IMG_1179

From the deepest ocean trench to the tallest mountain, plate tectonics explains the features and movement of Earth’s surface in the present and the past. As student scientists, our 7th graders have been exploring the theory of continental drift and the study of plate tectonics through a variety of tools and strategies, including simulations and the use of 2D and 3D modeling. As a wrap up to this unit, teams of students selected a tectonic force to further research and model.

Why models? And why do scientists use models? Ask any of your 7th graders for the answer.
