On Friday, September 9, fourth graders gathered as a whole group to hear more about the tragic events of September 11, 2001. First the students watched a child-friendly powerpoint slide show with a basic explanation of the events of September 11, 2001. The slide show not only explained the sad events, but also looked at the 911 Memorial in NYC, and celebrated the heroes that were recognized because of these events.
Next they heard the true story of “Sirius,” the police patrol dog who died in the Twin Towers on 9-11-01. The story is told by “Sirius” in his own words, and also recounts his friendship with his police officer partner, David, who survived the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks.
Students were given United States flag stickers to wear all day in remembrance of 9/11. They also created their own special star art for the class display board “9/11 Never Forget.”
