The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation’s largest and longest-running educational promotion, sponsoring spelling bees for students in the United States and around the world.

Classroom spelling bees were held on Friday, October 21, in third through eighth grades. Classroom winners in fourth through eighth grades competed in the school-wide spelling bee on Thursday, November 3, in the gym.

This year’s competitors included 4th graders Sam B. and Davis P., 5th graders Anne Marshall M. and Trav W., 6th graders Sam J. and Jacob C., 7th graders Will M. and Barrett T., and 8th graders Evelyn R. and Virginia C.
Anne Marshall M. became our school champion in the tenth round after correctly spelling daunted. Anne Marshall will represent EDS at the independent school spelling bee hosted by Alleluia Community School in January. Our runner-up, Evelyn R., will be prepared to represent EDS, if Anne Marshall is unable to compete. Congratulations to all of our fantastic EDS spellers!
