The Episcopal Day School’s Veterans Day Assembly was held on Monday, November 10, and led by our student council officers: Nicole Alleyne, Jack Adams, McNeill Franklin, and Evelyn Kitchens. Fort Gordon’s Delta Company 551 Signal Battalion served as our color guard, and The Reverend Robert D. Fain, LCDR, USNR, Retired, led our opening prayer. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Saint Cecilia’s Choir sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Fifth grade students Katie Andrews, Ben Monnig, Will Monnig, and Galadra Plummer shared their reflections about the importance of Veterans Day, and the second grade sang “My Country, Tis of Thee.” Our guest speaker was First Lieutenant Nicholas Chopp, United States Army, who is currently an Executive Officer with Delta Company, 551st Signal Battalion at Fort Gordon, here in Augusta.
Afterwards, students and guests participated in the “Armed Forces Medley,” standing during the appropriate song if they or members of their family have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. EDS is proud to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
