EDS Fourth to Fifth Grade Transition

To help guide the transition from lower school to middle school, 4th and 5th grade teachers are collaborating on a very intentional introduction for 4th grade students, which will span over the course of the final quarter of the school year.

The first part of this transition occured last week as Mrs. Jenkins accompanied her students to visit Mrs. Kirstein’s fifth grade math class to partner for a fun St. Patrick’s Day themed scavenger hunt! Students worked in teams on basic fraction operations, (which was a helpful review of fourth-grade work for the fifth-grade hosts). Fourth graders got a feel for our high-energy fifth grade math classroom and were able to work with some of the older students with whom they will share advisory and recess next year.

The next part of this transition project will take place in the coming weeks as fifth graders have invited the fourth grade class to join them in Mr. Schmelzer’s class for an explosive science lab!
