First Dress Down Day is 9/26
Our first dress down day of the year will be held on Friday, September 26th. Proceeds for this event will go to ALAS, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing services to underserved or under-privileged Hispanics. For the past 10 years ALAS has been providing free medical services twice a month through the “Clinica Latina” at St. Vincent de Paul. These services are provided to hispanics who do not have health insurance or are under-insured. As of last month, the Clinica was temporally relocated to the Health Sciences Building in MCG. The patients are served by volunteer physicians, medical students, student nurses, and student PAs. This way the clinic has a double fold purpose: to help the under served and to give the medical field students an opportunity to practice and train under the tutelage of experienced physicians or some of their professors that also volunteer there.
ALAS as an organization is in the process of raising funds to build its own clinic building on the land the organization has already acquired. ALAS has solicited a grant from the city, but in order to obtain that grant money, the organization must raise at least half of the amount being requested.
