Honoring Dr. King at Chapel

IMG_0897
It was our honor and delight to welcome Dr. John Hayes as our guest preacher for this year’s Martin Luther King Chapel. Dr. Hayes is Assistant Professor of History at Augusta University, where he teaches American history (particularly history of the South) and history of American religion. He is an active member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, serving on the vestry and teaching children’s Sunday school, and he is also on the board of advisors for Columbia House Augusta.
Dr. Hayes reminded us of Dr. King’s major accomplishments, and also of his beginnings “just like any other kid.” Reflecting on Jesus’ call to love not only our neighbors but our enemies, we were challenged to consider how we could dream of a better school/better city/better world, and how we could “practice love” in order to make the good dreams a reality.
