The annual EDS Science Night featuring student scientists in the 6th and 7th grades was held this Tuesday, February 14th. Students chose concepts and topics within their science curriculum to investigate and share with their audience, enhancing their presentations with models, slideshows, videos, and other interactive components.
The purpose of Science Night is to provide a structure through which students can demonstrate mastery of a subject by creating and presenting a research-based project that is driven by their own interest in a topic, and allows them to work within the same parameters as real researchers. Science Night is an example of authentic project-based learning. It encourages our students to engage in deep and active thinking, to question a topic which has particular resonance and meaning for them, and develop the habits of mind and skills essential for 21st Century Learners.
