The Episcopal Day School’s Veterans’ Day Assembly was held on Friday, November 10, and led by our student council officers: Jane Sutton A., Belle G., and Jackson A., with the assistance of the sixth grade student council representatives: TJ J., Ella J., and Emma Kate S.

The Navy Information Operations Command, Georgia Color Guard posted the colors, and Jane Sutton A., the president of our student council, led our opening prayer. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, The Girls Ensemble and Saint Cecilia’s Choir sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Fifth grade students Marshall B., Lucy W., Jim F., Felicity H., and Julia J. shared their reflections on personal interviews of veterans and members of the armed services, and the second grade sang “The Preamble.”

Our engaging and inspiring guest speaker was Colonel Kim Elle, the President and CEO of the Augusta Warrior Project. Afterwards, students and guests participated in the “Armed Forces Medley,” standing during the appropriate song if they or members of their family have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The audience enjoyed an emotional ending to the assembly as Pastor Lisa honored the Norvilles, a special military family in the EDS community. At the end of Pastor Lisa’s presentation, Staff Sergeant Matthew Norville surprised his children, fifth grader, Christian, and first grader, Jaxon, with an early return home from his latest deployment. Sergeant Norville’s wife, Kimberly, and young son, Jett, also joined Christian and Jaxon for the heartwarming celebration.

EDS is proud to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
