Support for Puerto Rico
It’s hard to believe that six weeks have already passed since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, and it is heartbreaking to learn of how badly people are still suffering there. Our own 7th and 8th grade Spanish teacher, Maribelys Sánchez, has family in Puerto Rico and, although she finally received word that they are all safe, her mother and the people of her village still find themselves without sufficient food or clean water. We have been seeking an avenue to offer our support specifically to that area, and we are pleased to report that Food For The Poor, an A+ rated charity working in Central America and the Caribbean primarily through Episcopal and Catholic Churches and organizations, is hard at work in Puerto Rico in and around Mrs. Sanchez’s home.
In order to extend the generous assistance of the EDS community to Puerto Rican recovery, we invite faculty and students to participate in a dress-down day on Tuesday, November 14. For a minimum donation of $5.00, you may dress out of uniform IN THE RED, WHITE, AND BLUE OF THE PUERTO RICAN FLAG (jeans permitted), and show your support for those devastated by Hurricane Maria. We will take photographs that day, specifically to send to Maribelys’ mother and neighbors, a visible sign of our love and encouragement.
As always, thank you (in advance) for your generosity towards those in need.
