1st- 3rd grade is enjoying their new Recorder Karate Curriculum with Ms. Hancock in music.

Recorder Karate is a positive reward system in which students receive colored “karate belts” to hang from their recorders for each progressively more difficult tune they learn to play. The students in this program will be using this online resource in conjunction with guidance and performance assessments in the musical classroom.

The National Standards For Music Education that will be met throughout this program include:

  • 1. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.

  • 2. Reading and notating music.

  • 3. Evaluating music and music performances.

  • 4. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.

Several students received their first “White Belt’ this week! Congratulations 3rd graders!
They are also reinforcing the rhythm skills and sight-reading skills they learned last year with Mrs. Scheyer using two new iPad apps called Rhythm Cat and Staff Wars and their favorite new game called KABOOM!
