Paul Klee, Fish of the Sea
This week in art, 5th graders completed their Paul Klee fish project. This involved finishing their chalk pastel checkerboard backgrounds, drawing fish on black construction paper paper, designing patterns and filling them in with oil pastel, and cutting and pasting them onto paper.
We started with the fish. Each student drew 3 simple fish shapes on their papers and began filling them in with cubist shapes and designs. Some students filled in their fish with oil pastel immediately while some went ahead and cut their fish out first.
Once these cubist fish were colored in and cut out, students arranged them on their checkerboard backgrounds. We discussed layout and composition as each child decided which direction his or her fish would go. We glued them down to secure our pieces.
Many of these fish are currently in display in the lunch room. Come and check them out!
